I would argue the middle of winter is the best time to visit Hawaii, especially for biking. We had two whole days for MTB, the first was a surprisingly techy trail called Ohana. {{% tf2 data_id=34929586 %}} .. image:: /images/hawaii-singletrack.jpg :width: 100% The views were spectacular and even though the elevation max is only about 1,200 feet, the trails tired us out significantly. It didn't help that we accidentally jumped into the jungle and started getting eaten by mosquitoes. {{% tf2 data_id=34953353 %}} The second trail system we tried was `Pupukea/Sunset Hills `_. We weren't able to find any breaks in the trees and thus no spectacular vistas, but we did randomly run into a man from New Mexico named Eliot. Apparently he owns an adventure tour business in Chama that we need to check out, small world ey? .. image:: /images/santa-fe.jpg :width: 100% The biking was great but there is so much more to do in Hawaii. We hiked the `Diamond Head `_ with its creepy caverns and epic view of Honolulu. .. image:: /images/diamond-head.jpg :width: 100% .. image:: /images/diamond-head-cavern.jpg :width: 100% I had a surf lesson on Waikiki, should have recorded that but I guess I forgot. The next day we hiked to some splash-ey square rocks along the coast line. At Will's recommendation we fell in love with the ice-cream/slushy-like treat called "Shave Ice" (not to be confused with shaved ice which I would use to describe the main ingredient) .. image:: /images/splash-rock.jpg :width: 100% .. image:: /images/emily-ice.jpg :width: 100% We went on a tour of "Kaneohe Sandbar", playing a volleyball game in the two-ish feet of water. There's supposedly a sea turtle in the following photo (I need to get our waterproof camera's film developed for the more recognizable images...) .. image:: /images/turtle1.jpg :width: 100% .. image:: /images/island1.jpg :width: 100%
